The 2018 Honda CR-V

  • 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine
  • 184 horsepower, 180 lb-ft of torque
  • Advanced suite of safety features standard on EX models
  • 75.8 cubic feet of cargo volume

The 2018 Honda CR-V was recently redesigned and, rather than resting on its laurels, received innovations to make it better than ever, including an improved suspension, extra ground clearance and cargo space, and improved technology.

The base trim is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, while the EX trim upgrades to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.

Standard technology includes Bluetooth® connectivity and a USB port, a five-inch LCD display, and four-speaker audio system. The EX trim adds heated front seats, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, satellite radio, and a whole suite of advanced safety features, including blind spot monitoring and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Maximum cargo capacity is enormous, measuring 75.8 cubic feet.

The 2018 Ford Escape

If you’re shopping for a small crossover, you may also consider the 2018 Ford Escape. Its base trim is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Standard features include Bluetooth® and a six-speaker sound system with a USB port.

You can upgrade to the SE trim to get a slightly more powerful turbocharged engine that puts out 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. This trim also adds satellite radio and heated front seats, although Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ don’t come standard. Advanced safety features like blind spot monitoring and forward collision warning are not standard on any trim level. Cargo space is decent at 67.8 cubic feet maximum but falls short of the 2018 Honda CR-V.
